Today, Director General Quentin de Hults participated at the 6th EIT RawMaterials Summit 2024 in the panel: 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿.
He outlined that we need more exchanges and collaborations across the entire value chain, considering copper’s pivotal role in wind, solar, and other decarbonisation technologies, including EVs, motors and power cables.
Europe already has strong capabilities in mining, refining, and recycling. However, to meet the EU’s decarbonisation goals, it’s imperative to further enhance these capacities both within Europe and globally.
The Critical Raw Materials Act marks a significant initial step. As outlined in our recently published ICA Europe Policy Priorities 2024-2029, a coordinated strategy is essential. This approach should aim to forge a comprehensive EU Industrial Policy that balances the interests of citizens, businesses, and the environment. Such a policy framework is crucial for attracting investments into strategic raw material value chains, vital for achieving a climate-neutral and resilient EU.
